Good questions, straight answers
What locals ask us most
What will a plumbing visit cost me?
Nothing to find out: the call out fee is $0, your plumber inspects the job, and you receive a fixed written price before any work begins, with no obligation to proceed. We do not bill by the hour and we do not issue estimates that grow. If the quote does not suit, you owe us nothing and the assessment has cost you exactly zero dollars.
Are your plumbers licensed and insured?
Yes, every plumber on the team works under licence #275278C with full insurance, and compliance certificates come with the invoice without you needing to ask. That paperwork matters doubly in strata buildings, where owners corporations and property managers often want the documentation trail on file before they sign off on any significant repair.
Do you answer calls after hours and on weekends?
A licensed plumber answers the phone day and night, including weekends and public holidays, so a 2am burst flexi-hose gets a human voice rather than an answering machine. Weekend and after-hours jobs are priced the same way as weekday work: one upfront figure in writing before we start, with no overtime rates bolted on because of when you called.
Why do tapware and pipes fail faster near the harbour?
Salt-laden harbour air accelerates corrosion of external pipework, valves and tapware, so fittings on foreshore balconies age years ahead of their inland counterparts without maintenance. It is one of the defining trade realities of this peninsula. Balcony taps, garden taps and exposed valve assemblies on the water side of the streets need corrosion-resistant replacements and periodic checks, not just a swap when they finally seize.
Can you work in older apartment blocks with shared hot water?
Yes, we work with residents and strata managers across interwar walk-ups and mid-century blocks, including the aged shared risers and plant rooms many local buildings still rely on. At the last census, around 87 per cent of dwellings here were flats or apartments, so most of our week means tenanted units, photos for landlords and careful scheduling around building access. For more on how we approach that stock, see residential plumbing.
Why do drains on the peninsula block so often?
Pre-1940 earthenware and clay pipes crack after a century on sloping ground, and roots from the fig and jacaranda-lined streets find every weakened joint beneath older buildings. The steep fall toward the water makes it worse: heavy rain sends fast runoff through old runs and punishes every weak joint. A CCTV drain inspection shows exactly which of those causes you are dealing with before anyone digs.
Can old galvanised pipes be replaced without gutting the walls?
Often yes: runs can be rerouted through cavities, cupboards and existing access points, so renewal usually avoids the demolition people fear in rendered double-brick buildings. Many early blocks and terraces here still carry galvanised steel supply lines that corrode internally and strangle flow. If pressure has faded gradually, leak detection and a pipe condition check will tell you whether renewal or a targeted repair is the smarter spend.
Do you take small jobs as well as big ones?
A single dripping mixer gets the same fixed-price treatment as a full renovation rough-in, and no job is considered too minor to quote properly in writing. Taps, cisterns, dishwasher connections and water filters all sit alongside bathrooms, kitchens and full maintenance plumbing programs on our books.
Which nearby suburbs do you also cover?
We service Milsons Point, Lavender Bay, Kurraba Point, McMahons Point and Cremorne Point, with a dedicated page for each so you can confirm coverage on your own street. Each page carries its own local detail, because a harbourside walk-up and a ridge-top terrace develop very different faults. Our contact page has the fastest ways to reach us from any of them.
